Caroline Fund runs race for research

More than 750 runners went through their paces at the third annual Caroline Fund 5K Race on Saturday, Sept. 10, in launched from St. Aloysius, raised money for cancer research in honor of Caroline Vandemark. The run – or walk, for some – aimed to raise money for a brain and spine tumor research group at the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center.

Caroline Fund Hosts Third Annual 5K Run in Caldwell Benefiting Brain and Spine Tumor Research

Approximately 750 runners and walkers gathered at St. Aloysius Church in Caldwell on Sept. 10 for the third annual Caroline Fund 5K. The Caroline Fund will continue to collect donations until it presents a check to the team at John Theurer Cancer Center at HUMC in November, where The Caroline Fund will announce its 2016 fundraising total. The Caroline Fund hopes to be able to support patients and their families that are experiencing the hardships of brain cancer in a larger way.

Third Annual Caroline Fund Expected to Attract More Runners Than Ever in Caldwell

Last year, nearly 800 runners and more than 100 volunteers helped the Caroline Fund raise $100,000 toward brain and spine tumor research being performed by Caldwell resident Caroline Vandemark’s surgeons at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC). This year, the Vandemark Family hopes to attract even more support at the third annual Caroline Fund 5K held in her memory on Saturday, Sept. 10 at St. Aloysius Church in Caldwell.

Oncologists using viruses to treat brain cancer

Physicians at the John Theurer Cancer Center (JTCC) at Hackensack University Medical Center (HackensackUMC) have announced their involvement in a promising multicenter Phase 1 study assessing the safety and tolerability of Toca 511 in patients with glioblastoma, the most common and lethal form of brain cancer. Toca 511 is a retroviral replicating vector that has been engineered to deliver a therapeutic gene selectively to brain tumor cells while sparing healthy brain tissue.

Over 600 Strong Honor Caroline Vandemark at Memorial 5K

Almost 600 people signed up to race and hundreds more showed up to cheer on Saturday, Sept. 13 at the first Caroline Fund 5K.
The event honored the life of Caroline Vandemark from Caldwell, who passed away from inoperable brain cancer on June 26, 2013 at the age of 22.

On Sept. 13 more than 600 people came St. Aloysius Church to support The Caroline Fund inaugural 5K Run/Walk. The event, in honor of the late Caroline Vandemark, raised more than $50,000 for brain and spine tumor research. Vandemark was a 22-year old Caldwell resident who lost her life to brain cancer in June 2013.

On a perfectly chill running day today, hundreds of runners and walkers hit the ground to share their support to find a cure for a rare, deadly form of brain cancer that stole the life of vibrant, local 22-year old Caroline Vandemark.
This was a 5K filled to the brim with eager walkers and runners, all happy to support raising money for the Caroline Vandemark Fund for Brain and Spine Tumor Research at Hackensack University Medical Center.

Caroline Vandemark never let her battle with cancer crush her spirit, and now family and friends are hoping to carry on her positive outlook and fund research to beat the aggressive brain tumor that took the 22-year-old’s life.
A 5K race will be held at St. Aloysius Church in Caldwell on Saturday, Sept. 13 in Caroline Vandemark’s honor and to raise funds for brain and spine tumor research. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the race begins at 9 a.m.

Barnegat Girl Honors Cancer Victim With Lollipop Sale

A fund for brain cancer research in North Jersey is getting a boost from a student at the Joseph Donahue Elementary School in Barnegat Township. Giulianna Ronga, a fourth-grade student, raised $485 during a recent lollipop sale at the school.

Friends, Family Start Caroline Vandemark Fundraiser

When Tierney Conlon learned Caroline Vandemark, age 21, was diagnosed with brain cancer, she knew she had to do something.
Conlon, who graduated with Vandemark's sister Eileen from in 2011, worked with Eileen and some other friends to have wristband bracelets produced and sold to raise funds to help defray Vandemark's medical costs.
To date, the bracelets have raised more than $1,000, and Conlon has placed an order for more.
